Get Ready!
A lot of the fun of your senior portrait is in the preparation. After working with hundreds of seniors I've come up with some quick tips to help you out.
Communication
The most important ingredient to a successful portrait session!
- Be sure your photographer knows what's most important to you about your portraits.
- Talk to your parents to make sure everyone will get their needs met.
- Be clear with your requirements for everyone involved.
Your "Look"
We want to see the real you!
- Plan for at least one change for clothing; you can change as many times as you'd like.
Wear clothing that is comfortable and fits well - not too tight, not too loose.
Try to stay away from fad clothing.
Avoid big and bold patters and designs.
Location
The most successful senior portraits are created on location.
- Decide whether you want an urban, park, or other type of setting. We typically visit two locations for each senior.
- Let me know ASAP the locations you've chosen; I like to check them out in advance if I haven't been there.
- If you can't think of a location I can suggest some of our seniors' favorite places
Hair/Makeup
Less is sometimes more.
- Avoid heavy eyeliner, eyeshadow, and blush.
- Apply a light base and don't worry about trying to cover blemishes, the portraits you choose will be retouched.
- Try to leave two weeks between your last haircut and the day of your portrait to avoid the "just cut" look.
Bring Your Best Friend!
A little bit of help will go a long way.
- Your best friend knows you better than anyone else and can act as your "mirror" to help you look your best.
- Just having them there will help you feel relaxed and look better in fron of the camera.
- It'll make the session even more fun!
- And if you'd like I'll be more than happy to photograph the two of you together at no extra cost.
